タランチュラ星雲(タランチュラせいうん、NGC2070、Caldwell 103)は、大マゼラン雲のHII領域にある輝線星雲。
当初は恒星と考えられていたが、1751年にニコラ・ルイ・ド・ラカーユが星雲であることを突き止めた。

恒星以外の天体としては非常に大きい光度を持つ。その明るさは、もし地球からオリオン大星雲ほどの距離に来たならば、影を生じるほどである。実際に、局部銀河群で知られている最も活発なスターバースト領域。
また局部銀河群のそのような領域としては直径200パーセクと最も大きいことで知られる。
星雲は大マゼラン雲の最先端に位置し、そこでは動圧がなくなり、星間物質の圧縮が最大限に達する。
核には、直径約35光年の小さな星団R136が存在し、星雲のエネルギーの大部分を生産している。
星団の質量は推定45万太陽質量であり、将来は球状星団になると推測されている。

タランチュラ星雲にはR136の他にも、2,000万歳から2,500万歳と古い星団であるホッジ301もある。
この星団中の最も質量の大きい恒星はすでに超新星として爆発している。

望遠鏡が発明されて以来、直近で観測された超新星爆発は、タランチュラ星雲の外縁部で生じた SN 1987A 。

First cataloged as a star, 30 Doradus is actually an immense star forming region in nearby galaxy The Large Magellanic Cloud. The region's spidery appearance is responsible for its popular name, the Tarantula nebula, except that this tarantula is about 1,000 light-years across, and 180,000 light-years away in the southern constellation Dorado. If the Tarantula nebula were at the distance of the Orion Nebula (1,500 light-years), the nearest stellar nursery to Earth, it would appear to cover about 30 degrees (60 full moons) on the sky. The spindly arms of the Tarantula nebula surround NGC 2070, a star cluster that contains some of the brightest, most massive stars known. Intriguing details of the nebula are visible in this scientifically-colored image. The cosmic Tarantula also lies near the site of the closest recent supernova.

In the heart of monstrous Tarantula Nebula lies huge bubbles of energetic gas, long filaments of dark dust, and unusually massive stars. In the center of this heart, is a knot of stars so dense that it was once thought to be a single star. This star cluster, labeled as R136 or NGC 2070, is visible just above the center of the above image and home to a great number of hot young stars. The energetic light from these stars continually ionizes nebula gas, while their energetic particle wind blows bubbles and defines intricate filaments. The above representative-color picture of this great LMC nebula details its tumultuous center. The Tarantula Nebula, also known as the 30 Doradus nebula, is one of the largest star-formation regions known, and has been creating unusually strong episodes of star formation every few million years.

The Tarantula Nebula is more than 1,000 light-years in diameter -- a giant star forming region within our neighboring galaxy the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). That cosmic arachnid lies left of center in this sharp, colorful telescopic image taken through narrow-band filters. It covers a part of the LMC over 2,000 light-years across. Within the Tarantula (NGC 2070), intense radiation, stellar winds and supernova shocks from the central young cluster of massive stars, cataloged as R136, energize the nebular glow and shape the spidery filaments. Around the Tarantula are other violent star-forming regions with young star clusters, filaments and bubble-shaped clouds. The rich field is about as wide as the full Moon on the sky, located in the southern constellation Dorado.
